Benefits of the Nagarjuna Training Institute (NTI) courses

> The students come from some of the most deprived and oppressed situations in India, often with a feeling of no hope whatsoever. After a year of Dhamma practice most feel completely transformed, with a new vision of life, and the Dhamma tools to work on it.

> The confidence in the Dhamma and Dr. Ambedkar’s great vision they develop during the year gives them energy to share what they have learnt with many others in their villages and towns.

> The different Scheduled caste communities in India do not usually cooperate with each other, even after they have become Buddhists. At the Nagarjuna Institute they relate to each other just as Buddhists and not in terms of the caste they have come from. This in itself is an enormous contribution to a truly democratic society. The intensive practice for a year with other Buddhists from all over India means they cease to identify with the old untouchable caste but just as Buddhists.

> The ex-students make up a network covering over 19 states in India. This is the basis for organising local activities, retreats and lecture tours, making a very significant contribution to the development of Buddhism in these States.

> Many have started social projects. A group of the first students started two hostels in Tamil Nadu for children who suffered from the Tsunami.

A Seminar on Annihilation of Caste

On 27th July, 2008

Dear Friends,

It is a saddest subject to inform you that, the system of caste hierarchy, and its duties and performance leads to a path of jeopardy, prejudice and hypocrisy to the people in mind. In India, caste is a major problem, for this cause everywhere inequalities, discrimination and dehumanization like treatment prevailing in the society. Due to this evil caste practice the country is facing a lot of problems, from the field of education to the common man of BPL Card. This caste system have no scope for freedom. The caste occupation enforcing to exist as they are for this cause people survive in same condition. So that poverty has ruined the wish of people. Hence value of fraternity in the society is zero so every community have their own thinking perspective of way of life according to “Rule Of Caste”. Dalits and Tribals are always an example.

Jotiba Phule said;

Jati bina Gatigaya

Gati bina niti gaya

Niti bina bruti gaya

Bruti bina sudra gaya”

This happened due to caste system, Dr. Babasaheb Ambedkar said “Caste has killed public spirit, caste has destroyed the sense of public charity, caste has made public opinion impossible. A Hindu’s public is his caste. His responsibility is only to his caste. His loyalty is restricted only to his caste virtue has become caste – ridden, and morality has become caste-bound. There is no sympathy for deserving. There is no appreciation of the meritorious. There is no charity to the needy, suffering as such calls for no response. There is charity, but it begins with the caste and with the caste there is sympathy, but not for men of their caste condition.

Even after 60th year of constitutional and legal protection and support, there is still social discrimination against Dalits in many parts of our country Dalits have faced a unique discrimination in our society that is fundamentally different from the problem of minority groups in general. The only parallel to the practice of untouchability was apartheid. Untouchability is not just social discrimination, it is a bolt on humanity.

From above para we knew still the works of Dr. Ambedkar of “Annihilation of Caste is Memomabilia” and necessary to obligated. Mamohan Singh -
